Bamboo Generations’ Facilitators —— KK, Janice and Kan Sir

The first workshop of 𝑬.𝑪𝑶 𝑹𝒐𝒕𝒖𝒏𝒅𝒂 —— ‘Bamboo Chair - DIY Creativity’ is concluded successfully on 18 May 2024. Many thanks to Bamboo Generations for hosting this event, and special thanks to all the participants for their active engagement. Both facilitators and participants have contributed to the Bamboo Rotunda construction with the bamboo chairs they crafted during this event. Throughout the two workshops, the participants not only gained valuable knowledge about bamboo as a construction material but also applied their newly acquired skills to craft bamboo chairs.

We also took this opportunity to interview the facilitators from Bamboo Generations — KK, Janice and Kan Sir. During our conversation, they shared their perspectives on bamboo and their experiences participating in the Bamboo Rotunda building.

“Bamboo is a unique construction material that can replace plastic, metal, and wood in various applications. Many countries are now utilising bamboo as a sustainable alternative to these traditional materials.” —— KK

When asked about the characteristics of bamboo and the traditional craftsmanship of bamboo, KK pointed out that while many people are constantly promoting energy sustainability, material sustainability is often overlooked. Bamboo, among many materials, not only achieves material sustainability but can also replace materials such as plastic, metal, and wood. Kan Sir and Janice believed that this unique traditional craftsmanship of bamboo should be preserved and promoted widely.

"I do not have a professional qualification in bamboo scaffolding, but I am honoured to be able to contribute to the construction of the Bamboo Rotunda by making bamboo chairs." —— Janice

“It is rare to see architecture made of bamboo from time to time in Hong Kong, therefore I feel honoured to be able to participate in this Bamboo Rotunda construction” —— Kan Sir

When asked about their feeling of participation in the construction of the Bamboo Rotunda, all the facilitators from Bamboo Generation are satisfied. Janice and Kan Sir both felt honoured to be part of the Bamboo Rotunda construction, while KK believed that the construction of bamboo chairs not only could be a part of the Bamboo Rotunda but also a meaningful experience that anyone could participate in.

We hope the sharing of the Bamboo Generations’ facilitators can help you learn more about bamboo. When the Bamboo Rotunda is officially completed, we are looking forward to seeing you try out the craftsmanship of the students and facilitators!
